SOLD - WW2 1941 MATCHLESS G3WO (Barn Find)

£5,000.00

This original WD Matchless G3WO was supplied to the War Office under contract C7183 dated 29th March 1941.  Deliveries started from 29th March 1941 and many were destined for the Middle East.  Records confirm that it was sold off by the War Department at Irvine in Scotland on 24th September 1959.  We know that its post-war army registration was 14 YA 12 and before that its army registration was C1460561.

The bike comes with a current V5C, registration ESX 359 and is registered as a Historic Vehicle and is therefore free road tax and MOT exempt.  The V5C records that there have been 2 former keepers since 1999, both in Scotland and therefore it did not travel far after it was sold off.

We believe that this bike has been sitting in a barn or shed for 30/40 years and have been told that the previous keeper, who purchased it in 1984, never used it on the road. We have deliberately left the bike in the as found “barn find” condition in order to allow the next owner to decide what they want to do with it.  This is a genuine G3WO and retains its original frame, wheels, mudguards etc.  Like most WD motorcycles it has had and engine change at some point in its life but this work will have been undertaken by the REME workshops before it was sold off. As will be seen from the photos, it is not currently fitted with a correct G3WO fuel tank, lights or speedo.

Since purchasing the bike we have recommissioned it and it now starts very easily and is a joy to ride.  The petrol tank has been drained of old fuel and flushed through and the carburettor float bowl has also been removed and cleaned. The magneto points have been removed and cleaned and the points reset along with the pickup. The oil tank and sump have been drained, cleaned and refilled with fresh oil.

Please feel free to contact us to arrange a viewing or ask more questions.  We also welcome inspection by prior arrangement and are located approximately 30 miles west of London.  We can arrange delivery in the UK and Europe- at the buyers’ expense but please do contact us for a quotation before bidding.  Please note there is no VAT or other fees in addition to the purchase price (other than delivery costs)
