SOLD - Matchless 1961 G80CS

£8,500.00

Matchless G80CS 1961

This Matchless G80CS 500cc (also called a Westerner) was built at the AMC factory in May 1961 and  dispatched to the USA where it was registered in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  More recently it was registered to an owner in Kalamazoo, Minnesota before returning to the UK and being issued with a V5C document in March 2021.  This motorcycle is a genuine competition G80CS and has a Dating Certificate from the AJS & Matchless Owners Club confirming this. The V5C, registration document confirms the registration number as 960 XVN and it is registered as a historic vehicle and is therefore free of road tax and MOT exempt. The number is non-transferable.

As will be seen from the photographs the bike is in original unrestored condition and cosmetically retains the patina and battle scars of its use over the last 62 years .Where ever possible we have retained, cleaned and where necessary repaired parts in order to keep it as an original unrestored bike.  The mechanical side of the bike has been thoroughly reconditioned by us and although the bottom end of the engine did not require a rebuild a new piston was fitted.  The rolling chassis was refurbished throughout and the bike now runs very sweetly and is a delight to ride. The AMC gearbox is the best we have ever encountered.

All paintwork to the frame, ancillaries and petrol tank is original and has the finish it left the factory with.

The original factory light-alloy mudguards remain on the bike and are in overall good condition.

The battery carrier, air filter, toolbox, rear number plate and headlamp are all original and none of the tinware has been replaced.

The tyres and tubes have been replaced with modern competition ones in keeping with its off road heritage.

The original Amal 389/12 carburetor is in place.

The original Lucas Competition magneto is also in place.

New cables and chains have been fitted.

Original handlebars and ball end levers are in place.

The bike shows some battle scars and there are some dents on the fuel tank and the left hand oil tank has a large dent and the competition headlamp also shows some impact damage.

Original condition motorcycles like this are very few and far between and it is now looking for a new custodian who will cherish its originality.
