SOLD - James ML 1943 (Rare first contract bike)

£7,500.00

This newly restored early WD James ML (Military Lightweight) is from the first contract, No. S1972with deliveries commencing to the War Office from March 1943 and retains a AAA stamped engine. The first contract was for 3541 bikes and very few of these early bikes have survived. The bike comes with a current V5C registration document with the registration number XXG 310 and is registered as a Historic Vehicle with a non-transferable number.

Used by both the Airborne and Commando forces this ML retains several of its specified War Department modifications which enabled the ML to be stowed in a glider.  These include folding handlebars and footrests, short rear mudguard, petrol cap with screw in seal.

The bike was restored by the previous owner who has told us that the engine was rebuilt by Villiers Services.  However, the toolbox was supplied by Heritage Motor Works and the light switch has been modified to give the correct appearance.  Since purchasing the ML we have fitted new re-lined brake shoes front and back and have recommissioned it to full running order.

Please feel free to contact us to arrange a viewing or ask more questions.

The Metisse still needs a test run to see if the wiring issue and new carb have sorted that!

And the typhoon needs a new plug and kickstart spring…
