SOLD - James ML 1943 (Rare first contract bike)

£7,495.00

This lovely early WD James ML (Military Lightweight) is from the first contract S.1972 delivered to the War Office from March 1943 and retains a AAA stamped engine.  The bike was re-registered for the road in 2013 as a Historic Vehicle with a declared manufacture of 1943.  The first contract was for 3541 bikes and very few of these early bikes have survived.  Deliveries to the War Department were from March 1943 and therefore this bike is now 80 years old. (Please note that for some unknown reason the “C” number painted on the tank is from a later contract).

The bike comes with a current V5C, registration 706 YUT and is registered as a historic vehicle and is therefore free road tax and MOT exempt. The number is non-transferable.

Used by both the Airborne and Commando forces this ML retains its specified War Department modifications which enabled the ML to be stowed in a glider.  These include folding handlebars and footrests, short rear mudguard, petrol cap with screw in seal.

Clearly an older restoration this bike now has a patina of age.  It has been fully recommissioned by us and is ready for its next custodian.

Please feel free to contact us to arrange a viewing or ask more questions.
