This 1955 Matchless Competition G80cs 500cc has returned from the USA where it had most probably been used for desert racing. The bike is fitted with a road G80 front frame but other parts are from a G80CS scrambles bike and we think it is likely that it left the factory as a CS competition model but the front frame has been damaged and changed at sometime in its life. The bike is fitted with a G80CS all aluminum moto-cross engine, competition rear frame, forks, magneto, oil tank, mudguards, aluminum competition petrol tank, folding foot rests, exhaust and silencer, handlebars and levers. The dating certificate records that the bike was manufactured on 20th June 1955 and it was then dispatched to Cooper Motors in California, USA. It comes with a current V5C logbook and registration number 748 UXT and is listed as a historic vehicle and therefore does not require an MOT.
The bike came to us in a partly dismantled state with some parts missing and requiring recommissioning. As can be seen from the photographs it has been fitted with Rock Shox shock absorbers (£400) along with a new Amal monobloc carburettor (£350). It has been fully serviced and has had oil filter and oil change; fresh gearbox oil; new spark plug; new clutch plates; new front brake shoes; petrol taps and fuel lines; petrol tank rubbers and bolts; new chrome cover for rear brake drum, new valve lifter and ignition cables. In addition, we have fitted a Smiths speedo and drive.
