AJS 1957 18CS

£6,500.00

In our view the AJS 18CS 500cc is the best looking Competition AJS to be produced by the AMC factory.  These bikes are seriously fun to ride on the road but were originally supplied in the UK as off road Moto-Cross models but in the US, were this bike spent most of its life, they were sold for Desert Racing.

It is clear from the paperwork that came with the bike it was re-imported into the UK in May 2021, which is confirmed by the Nova document.  There is also a Dating Certificate present which confirms that it was manufactured in 1957.  It was in 1957 that the AMC factory undertook a significant revision of their road and competition models and introduced the AMC gearbox and Norton type clutch as well as Girling rear shock absorbers. The Competition models were also fitted with a strengthened frame; light alloy mudguards, small capacity competition petrol tank, forged steel footrests and competition magneto. This one also has the 21” optional front wheel

The V5C, registration document confirms the registration number as 776 XVS and it is registered as a historic vehicle and is therefore free of road tax and MOT exempt. It is declared manufactured in 1957 and the number is non-transferable.

We acquired this bike in much the same cosmetic condition as you see it now but have fully recommissioned it for the road.  Work completed by us includes new tyres, chains and control cables and replacement alloy mudguards, Burtons Bike Seat, P11 handlebars and rare Lyta aluminium petrol tank.  We have also fitted the correct type chain guard, toolbox, speedo drive and number plate.

Please feel free to contact us to arrange a viewing or ask more questions.  We also welcome inspection by prior arrangement and are located approximately 30 miles west of London.  We can arrange delivery in the UK and Europe- at the buyers’ expense but please do contact us for a quotation before bidding.

Please note this is a private sale and therefore there is no VAT or other fees in addition to the purchase price (other than delivery costs)
