AJS 1946 Model 16M 350cc - Mercury 350

Sale Price:£3,500.00 Original Price:£4,000.00
sale

This rare AJS 16M was manufactured in 1946 and registered almost exactly one year after the end of WW2.  At some time in its life it has been turned into this really cool looking Bobber.

The bike comes with a current V5C, registration JHU 481 and is registered as a Historic Vehicle and is therefore free road tax and MOT exempt.  It also comes with an original green logbook which states it was first registration in the UK was 10th May 1946. The number is transferable.

The bike has been recommissioned by us and now runs and rides nicely. We have deliberately left all the paint and patina along with the stickers and decal that came on the bike.

During this process the head and barrel has been removed and new piston rings fitted and valves have ground in. We have replaced both the gearbox and rear sprockets as they were worn beyond saving.  In order to replace the gearbox sprocket the gearbox mainsheet has to be removed, requiring the gearbox to be dismantled and therefore the internals have been checked. The fuel tank was removed and flushed through, the carburettor has been sonic cleaned and magneto points removed, cleaned, reset and a new HT lead and plug fitted  Also all fluids drained and replaced. Speedo is working. There are no light currently fitted. Im sure there is something i have missing but there has been a lot of time and effort gone in to this wonderful looking bike.

  • New TT Universal tyres,

  • New primary and rear chains,

  • All new control cable,

  • Bates style seat,

  • Braced handlebars

  • New alloy levers,

  • Slow action Amal throttle

  • New  Amal grips,

  • New exhaust and silencer

  • New tank mounting rubber.

Please feel free to contact us to arrange a viewing or ask more questions.  We also welcome inspection by prior arrangement and are located approximately 30 miles west of London.  We can arrange delivery in the UK and Europe at the buyers’ expense but please do contact us for a quotation

Please note this is a private sale and therefore there is no VAT or other fees in addition to the purchase price (other than delivery costs)

The Metisse still needs a test run to see if the wiring issue and new carb have sorted that!

And the typhoon needs a new plug and kickstart spring…
